Episode 14: Alex Zhang on Curating People & Spaces, Skiing & Art, Reed Hastings & Elon
Alex Zhang loves bringing people together and curating spaces and experiences.
Today, he is Chief Creative Officer of Powder Mountain, where he’s building a new kind of ski resort with Netflix Co-founder Reed Hastings.
I’ve known him for a decade and I’ve gotten to watch his twists and turns as he continues to find new ways to combine seemingly disparate areas, whether it be technology and music, crypto and culture, or skiing and art. Prior to Powder, Alex was Mayor/CEO of Friends with Benefits (FWB) and began his career at Summit Series.
Blending culture, commerce, and "cool" is anything but a science, but Alex has made a career of it. We talk about this, how to curate spaces and events, living in the mountains, large scale art experiences, Christopher Alexander and Jane Jacobs, challenges in creating new cities, learning from Reed Hastings, and a life of deepening one's taste.
Dialectic Episode 14: Alex Zhang - Curating Cultural Playgrounds - is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.
